And a Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression, declares the LORD. (Isaiah 59:20)

Daily reading: Song of Songs 8

Jesus likens the kingdom to treasure hidden in a field: the finder sells everything to buy the entire plot (Matthew 13:44). Ruth 4 pictures that parable. Elimelech’s land lay forfeited; only a kinsman-redeemer could buy it. The nearer relative agreed—until he learned the field came with Ruth the Moabitess and the duty to raise up offspring for the dead. Protecting his own estate, he refused. Boaz, foreshadowing Christ, gladly paid the full price, accepting both field and bride. Christ, the true Kinsman-Redeemer, emptied Himself (Philippians 2:4-7). He valued the world’s hidden treasure—people lost through sin—above every right of His own. Leaving heaven’s wealth, He bought the whole field at Calvary. Self-interest barred the first redeemer; self-giving love moved the Second Man. In God’s economy the one who clings to life loses it, but the One who gives all gains all. Boaz’s costly purchase and Ruth’s rescue whisper the gospel: redemption secured, inheritance recovered, bride welcomed.
